IWA Home Movie Night Tonight!

What are you doing tonight? If you don’t have any plans, why not hang out and watch whitewater movies for a couple hours?

Event: Home Movie Night
Date: 6 Jan 10, Wednesday
Time: 7:00 pm
Location: Cascade Outfitters

Idaho Whitewater Association’s annual Home Movie Night is coming up on Wednesday, January 6 at Cascade Outfitters/Maravia. This is always a fun event, but we need YOUR help to make it a success! Please consider submitting some footage or slides to share with your fellow boaters. Old stuff, new stuff, wild to mild, action or scenery….its ALL GOOD! We really don’t have any rules, other than good taste (and that’s always debatable), but prefer something in the 5 to 15 minute range. Or not. Preferred media is a DVD, but we’ll try to have a VHS available this year.

Meeting will start at 7:00 pm at Cascade Outfitters / Maravia.

604 East 45th Street
Garden City, Idaho 83702

Cascade Outfitters will also be passing out 15% Off coupons to all who attend. This coupon is good for anything in stock and can be used through January 31st, 2010.

Come join us!

Gift Idea Under $25 – Ice³ Cooler

Yesterday on Facebook and Twitter we posted an article from CNN Money regarding a new product that we started carrying. You can find the article HERE if you’re interested.

In the article they were talking about the Ice³ Cooler. This week, I’ve chosen this item as the gift item because it’s actually a really cool product.

Ice³ Cooler The ultimate Cooler, Ice Pack and Water Bottle Combination for your next river trip! Two tough food grade BPA free recyclable HDPE bottles have an inner cavity to fit around 6 standard pop or beer cans. Use for day trips to hold your six pack or as an ice block in your cooler!

Better than an ice pack, Better than a block of ice. Better than a cooler. If you like to go camping and could do without the wet watery mess at the bottom of your food cooler, then this is the solution for you! This new and exciting product will change the way you keep your food and drink cold. The Ice³ is also a great day use cooler when you want a nice cold drink whether you are cycling, boating, golfing or just working around the yard! It’s an easy and convenient way to keep your drinks cold. It is excellent for un-serviced jobsites as lunch coolers – the molded cavity can fit a couple sandwiches, a can of pop and provide cold drinking water through the day. The inner cavity between the two halves will accommodate six standard aluminum beverage cans. Simply fill the Ice³ with water and freeze it the day before you need it and use the Ice³ instead of the regular block of ice.

Holds 4 liters of water. 1 year warranty

Bad day? Try an Anodized Dutch Oven.

Thanksgiving Dutch Oven Recipe

In celebration of Thanksgiving, I’ve decided to share a dutch oven recipe that you can do for Thanksgiving dinner!

Cranberry Stuffing

4 cups cooked wild rice

2 cups raw cranberries, coarsely chopped

1/2 cup (1 stick) unsalted butter or margarine, melted

1 tablespoon grated yellow onion

3 1/2 tablespoons sugar (optional)

1/2 teaspoon pepper

1 teaspoon salt (optional)

1/2 teaspoon mace

1/2 teaspoon dill weed

1/2 teaspoon dried thyme

1/2 teaspoon marjoram

1 garlic clove, minced

Combine all ingredients and pour in dutch oven or 1 1/2 quart casserole dish.

Cook in dutch oven over low heat for about 10-15 minutes or in 350 degree conventional oven for 15 minutes, until heated through. Allow to cool if using as a stuffing.

Yeild: 6 to 8 servings.

Do you have any dutch oven Thanksgiving traditions?

This recipe was taken from Sheila Mills Outdoor Dutch Oven Cookbook.

4.0 out of 5 stars Nice little tool.

Tool clips on keychain or beltloop. Also fits nice in pocket. I like to keep one at work and in the car. Many uses. Letter opener for one. A nice little gift idea.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great tool

Wonderful tool and what you can expect with a Gerber purchase. Has a well built feel with operation of locking mechanism. Have owned for a year and have the carabineer clip come off twice but as long as it is found it slips right back into place. Knife and other tools are sturdy and sharp. The best part about this tool is the bottle opener. It will open any foreign or domestic beer bottle with ease. Get one!

Satellite Phone Anyone?

Let’s face it. We live in a world where “being out of touch” doesn’t happen anymore. We’ve got satellite tv, satellite radio, and yes…. satellite phones.

Actually, the satellite phones are not a new technology. They have been around for quite a while. The technology is even getting better. The phones now can receive text messages and even connect to your laptop to give you internet access.

We understand the argument that when you decide to take a river trip, you’re doing it unplugged. We’re not advocating that you bring your laptop on your river trip, hook up your satellite phone and surf on Facebook in camp.

On the river, stuff happens. Whether you are camping in the Grand Canyon and you slip on a rock, floating down the Main Salmon and you wrap your boat, or simply one of the members of your group comes down with the flu, these are the perfect form of communication in the rare case of an emergency.

For about 5 years now Cascade Outfitters has rented satellite phones to our customers. They’ve been taken on river trips, hunting trips, cruises, overseas business trips and lots of other occasions. We have heard numerous stories from our customers where bringing a satellite phone on their trip has been extremely beneficial.

We want to hear your satellite phone success story. Do you have one? Share it.

Or if you’re interested in Cascade Outfitter’s satellite phone rental program, email us.
